Pakistan inaugural tour to England 1954. A good selection of forty original mono press photographs, including the odd candid, featuring team and player portraits, match action, ground scenes etc. Includes portrait photographs of the Pakistan captain, A.H. Kardar (signed), Fazal Mahmud, the team being greeted by H.S. Altham on their arrival at Southampton, an attempted stumping in the opening tour match v Indian Gymkana at Osterley, captains Kardar and Sheppard tossing for innings at Trent Bridge, Masood Ahmed in batting action, wicket-keeper Imtiaz about to take a catch to dismiss Compton, Hanif Mohammad snicking through the slips, Fazal dismissing Hutton, McConnon being run out by Hanif and the jubilation of the Pakistan players at the fall of the last England wicket at The Oval. England players featured include Frank Tyson taking his first Test wicket (of Alimuddin) at The Oval, Godfrey Evans taking a diving catch to dismiss Fazal Mahmood off Loader, a fine catch at slip by Tom Graveney to dismiss Shujauddin, Sheppard bowled out by Fazal Mahmood etc. General views include a flooded Oval, one with a man in an overcoat standing by a “Keep off the grass’ sign and another of the scoreboard reflected in the flooded outfield. Various sizes, mainly 10”x8” and smaller. Press agencies include Keystone, P.A./ Reuter, Sport & General, Central Press etc. Odd faults and wear, otherwise in good condition.
In their historic inaugural tour to England following independence from India, a four match Test series was played, which ended 1-1 with two matches drawn. In winning the final match at The Oval, Pakistan became the first team to win a Test match on their first tour to England.
