South Africa tour to England 1955. A good selection of over seventy original mono press photographs featuring team and player portraits, match action, ground scenes, excursions, functions etc. Includes official team photographs, two signed by South African team, one signed by five, the other by four, including McGlew, Endean, Waite, Adcock etc., player portraits of Jack Cheetham, Headley Keith, Paul Winslow, John Waite, Neil Adcock in bowling pose, the team entering the field for the opening tour match at Blackheath, captains May and Cheetham tossing for innings at Trent Bridge, crowds invading the pitch as England win at The Oval, Wilf Wooller leading out an England XI against the South Africans at Hastings, arriving and departing Heathrow, the team on a boating excursion on the River Thames during which oranges were thrown to the players from a lady in a helicopter, Cheetham and tour manager Viljoen meeting Jack Hobbs at a luncheon, Cheetham departing his London hotel etc. Various sizes, mainly 10”x8” and smaller. Press agencies include Sport & General, P.A./ Reuter, Daily Sketch, Central Press etc. Odd faults and wear, some with file holes, otherwise in good condition.
