The Ashes. Australia tour to England 1956. A good selection of over seventy original mono press photographs, the majority featuring match action, also player portraits, teams, ground scenes, functions etc. Includes player portraits of Jack Wilson, Alan Davidson, Pat Crawford, two signed (copy) photographs of Richie Benaud and Ian Craig, the Australian team’s arrival at Tilbury on the ‘Himalaya’, Len Hutton and David Sheppard walking out to bat in the opening tour match at Arundel, the Australian team on the outfield for the tour match v An England XI at Hastings, captains Peter May and Ian Johnson tossing for innings, Pat Crawford in bowling action, Colin McDonald carrying a stray dog off the pitch at Bradford, children huddled from the rain under a tarpaulin at The Oval, ground staff preparing the wicket at Old Trafford, presentations to the Australians from ‘His Master’s Voice’ records, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Keith Miller and Ian Johnson receiving their M.B.E. at Buckingham Palace etc. Various sizes, mainly 10”x8” and smaller. Press agencies include P.A./ Reuter, Sport & General, Central Press Photos etc. Odd faults and wear, otherwise in good condition.
England won the series 2-1 with two matches drawn to retain The Ashes.
