West Indies tour to England 1957. A good selection of over sixty original mono press photographs with the odd restrike photograph from the 1957 tour of match action from the Test series, team photographs, player portraits, travelling, functions etc. Two photographs are signed, one by Sonny Ramadhin in bowling action, the other by Everton Weekes batting and Godfrey Evans, England wicket-keeper. Other West Indians featured individually include John Goddard (Captain), Garry Sobers, Clyde Walcott, Alf Valentine, Bruce Pairaudeau, Tom Dewdney, Roy Gilchrist, Frank Worrell etc. From the drawn first Test at Trent Bridge, one of the captains May and Goddard tossing for innings, and another of the scoreboard showing England’s second innings score of 583/4 dec., May scoring 285no, Cowdrey 154. Other general views include the team on board the ‘Golfito’ en route to England, jubilant West Indian fans at Lord’s, a lone West Indian boy sitting drink a bottle of pop, with his back to the spectators who are watching England batting, a steel band playing at Edgbaston, the team about to board a plane for Amsterdam at Heathrow Airport, the team standing outside their hotel, smartly dressed before setting off for Buckingham Palace, England captain, Peter May, seeing the West Indians off at Waterloo Station. Press agencies include Central Press Photos, Sport & General, P.A./ Reuter etc. Various sizes, the majority 10”x8” and smaller. Some photographs with press masking, other odd faults, otherwise in good condition.
England won the five match Test series 3-0 with two matches drawn.
