India tour to England 1959. A good selection of thirty six original mono press photographs from the 1959 tour including match action from the Test series and the tour matches v Indian Gymkhana at Osterley, and v Lancashire at Old Trafford, team photographs, player portraits, travelling etc. Individual players featured include D.K. Gaekwad (Captain), Polly Umrigar, Surendranath, R.G. Nadkarni, Nari Contractor, Pankaj Roy, Chandu Borde, N.S. Tamhane, captains Gaekwad and Peter May tossing for innings in the first Test at Trent Bridge. General views include the team disembarking from their Air India flight on their arrival at Heathrow, spectators stripped to the waist in the sunshine amongst the large crowds at The Oval etc. Press agencies include P.A./ Reuter, Sport & General, Central Press Photos, Daily Sketch etc. Various sizes ranging from 11”x8.5” and smaller. Some photographs with press masking and other odd faults, otherwise in good condition.
England won the five match Test series 5-0, the first time they had accomplished a clean sweep of wins in a five match series.
