Cricket ball mounted to wooden stand with silver plaque running around the base of the stand with the inscription ‘Scarborough’s 48th Cricket Festival 1928. President Sir William Middlebrook. J.P. H.D.G. Leveson-Gower’s (England) XI v West Indies. Sept 8.10.11, Ball used in the 2nd innings of West Indies. Presented to Maurice Tate by the Committee for his excellent bowling 21.3 overs, 5 maidens, 28 runs, 5 wickets’. Good condition
H.D.G. Leveson-Gower’s (England) XI won by 8 wickets. The West Indies made 333 all out with Hoad making 124 runs, Tate taking 3-80, in reply the England XI made 236, Sutcliffe top scoring with 64, Constantine taking 7-68. The West Indies in their second innings were bowled out for 113, Tate taking his five wickets and Vallance Jupp four. The England level beat the target to win the game with only two wickets down, Hobbs making 119 not out. David Denton and George Hirst were the umpires for the match
