‘The London Evening-Post’ 1746. Early original four page broadsheet newspaper for Tuesday 8th July to Thursday 10th July 1746. Printed by J. Meres, Ludgate, London. Column 2 on the back page features a fourteen line article announcing a cricket match to be played on the Artillery Ground ‘the second great Match at Cricket, between the Gentlemen of Bromley and Addington against the Counties of Kent and Surrey’. It continues with a report of the first match ‘play’d on Monday last on Dover’s-Hill, Croydon, Surrey, and may justly be said to be one of the best that was ever play’d... The Counties went in first and got 42; the Parishes got 60 their first Hands [innings], which made 18 a-head; the Counties went in their second Hands, and got 47, which made them 29 a-head; and the Counties put the Parishes out for 25, which beat them by four Notches’.
