‘The St. James’s Chronicle or British Evening Post’ 1789. Early original four page broadsheet newspaper for Thursday 25th June to Saturday 27th June 1789. Printed by H. Baldwin at the Britannia Printing Office, Blackfriars, London. Column 3 of the final page features a ten line article, reporting ‘Thursday the Cricket Match between 11 of the Hambledon Club and 13 of All England for 1000 guineas aside, commenced at Marybonne [sic]. The players for England went in first. Ring was bowl’d out without getting a notch, and two other players went in and got 19. Yesterday the game was continued when All England got 118 notches at their first innings, and the Club went in and got 54 notches and only two wickets down. Duty stamp to lower right corner of page one. Small holes adjacent to fold, presumably where previously bound, otherwise in good/ very good condition.
