John Daniell. Somerset & Cambridge University 1898-1927. Two page handwritten letter in ink from Daniell to ‘Dear [Francis] Lacey’, Secretary of M.C.C. dated 13th September 1923. Daniell is writing to recommend a player, J.M. Mackie, ‘as a playing member for next season’ having already been proposed for membership, seconded by Daniell. ‘He was asked several times to play for Somerset by Murray-Anderson [Secretary] but I don’t know if he can manage it’. Nicely signed ‘John Daniell’. Light folds, file holes and some age toning to edge, otherwise in good condition.
Daniell captained Somerset 1908-1912 and again 1919-1926. He also captained England at rugby union and served as an international selector in both cricket and rugby.
