Wilfred Rhodes. Yorkshire, Europeans, Patiala & England 1898-1930. M.C.C. tour to Australia 1903/04. A collection of nine picture postcards sent by Rhodes to ‘F.E. Davis’ in Halifax, Yorkshire while on his first overseas tour with England to Australia in 1903/04 (and one other dated 1930). Subjects include Paris, Pompeii, Port Said, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Tasmania, Glenelg and Melbourne. Each postcard is signed or initialled by Rhodes. The postcards loosely mounted to album pages. Minor wear and age toning, otherwise in good condition.
Rhodes played in 58 Tests for England and toured Australia on four occasions in 1903/04- 1920/21, also to South Africa 1909/10 and West Indies 1929/30. On the 1903/04 tour Rhodes took a total of 65 wickets for 1055 runs at an average of 16.23. He was the highest wicket-taker in the Ashes series taking 31 for 488 runs at an average of 15.74, and returned his career best Test bowling performance with 8/68 in the second innings of the 2nd Test at Melbourne in which he returned match figures of 15/124, England winning by 185 runs.
